The International Institute for Yoga Therapy (IIYT) is partnering with Saint Joseph Mercy Health System to offer free yoga therapy for employees experiencing workplace stress.
The yoga therapy sessions will be provided by IIYT Level 3 students as part of their clinical externship. They will be guided by IIYT faculty. Sessions will be available from March through December 2021.
During the coronavirus pandemic, many medical workers are working long hours, putting their own and their families’ health at risk, and making life-altering decisions for patients. This can lead to increased stress, anxiety, pain and burnout. But yoga has been shown to help.
A 2019 study in the Journal of Clinical Medicine showed that yoga can help healthcare workers reduce stress and burnout. The researchers concluded: “yoga is effective in the prevention and management of musculoskeletal and psychological issues. In addition to an improvement in physical problems and quality of sleep, both stress levels and burnout are consistently reduced in subjects who practice yoga techniques and mind-body meditation.”
